Scam alert: Local government impersonation scam spreading nationwide

The FBI and Center for Internet Security’s Cyber Threat Intelligence Team are warning communities about a new scam where criminals pose as county or city planning departments, zoning officials, and other local government agencies.

Victims report receiving emails claiming that their planning permit, zoning application, or similar document is “under review.” The scam email then directs them to pay a fee through a fraudulent online portal or by wire transfer.

Roseville Parkway Widening Project: Phase 1 construction underway

The first phase of the two-phase Roseville Parkway Widening Project, between Pleasant Grove Boulevard and Creekside Ridge Drive, is underway. The project is designed to improve traffic flow in one of Roseville’s busiest retail and dining corridors.

Serve your community as a Youth Commissioner

The Roseville City Council is accepting applications from high school students residing within the city limits of Roseville interested in serving as youth commissioners. Current youth vacancies include:

• Grants Advisory Commission (one vacancy)

• Parks, Recreation & Libraries Commission (one vacancy)

• Transportation Commission (one vacancy)

The commissions meet approximately once a month and serve as advisory bodies to the City Council. The term of office runs from Jan. 1, 2027 to Dec. 31, 2027.

Roseville grants $279,940 to local nonprofits

On Tuesday, Aug. 11, the City of Roseville’s Grants Advisory Commission awarded $279,940 to 18 local nonprofits as part of the 2026/27 Citizens’ Benefit Fund grant cycle.

The Citizens’ Benefit Fund (CBF) was established in 1993 after the City sold the Roseville Community Hospital to Sutter Health for $14.8 million. Built on 8.5 acres along Sunrise Avenue, the hospital served the community for 45 years. Proceeds from the sale were placed in a trust, and each year, a portion of the interest earned is distributed as grants to enhance the quality of life for Roseville residents.

Since its inception, the Grants Advisory Commission has helped distribute $19.3 million to organizations that serve Roseville residents and enrich the community through a wide range of programs and services.

The next grant application cycle opens Tuesday, Dec. 1.

How we protect water quality every day

Most of us turn on the tap without thinking much about what happens before the water reaches our glass. Or what happens after we use it to ensure treated water meets standards before returning to the environment. Water Quality Month is a good time to recognize the people, testing, and monitoring that help keep Roseville’s water safe and reliable every day.

The city beneath the city

You probably know Roseville by what you can see: neighborhoods, parks, busy streets, shops and schools. But there is another Roseville that most of us will never see. Just below our feet is a sprawling network of pipes, valves, pumps and other equipment working around the clock.

Some pipes bring drinking water to your faucet. Others carry wastewater away after you flush, shower or run the dishwasher. Another network delivers recycled water for irrigation and other approved uses, putting highly treated wastewater to beneficial use again. It is a vast hidden network and keeping it working takes a lot more than burying a pipe and forgetting about it.

For one morning, we’re opening the gates at a Roseville groundwater well that is normally closed to the public. Join us Saturday, Oct. 10, from 10 a.m. to noon at 4030 Solaire Drive for a free, family-friendly open house.

Explore the site, meet Roseville water professionals and learn how groundwater supports our water supply during dry conditions and how we can store water underground when surface supplies are plentiful. Kids activities and refreshments will be available.

RSVPs are encouraged, but curious drop-ins are welcome.

• Recycle cardboard only (clean, dry cardboard is accepted; remove packing materials first). 

• Break down and flatten all boxes before placing them in the bin. 

• Do not leave household garbage, furniture, plastic bags, or other items at the site, as they can become wet, contaminated, or scattered.

• If a bin is full, do not leave cardboard or other materials on the ground – consider another recycling site or call (916) 774-5780.

With triple-digit temperatures expected through next weekend, Roseville Electric is encouraging customers to plan ahead and shift energy use outside of peak demand hours whenever possible.

When thousands of neighbors make a few simple adjustments, the impact adds up. By moving activities that require a lot of electricity to before 4 p.m. or after 9 p.m., customers can help reduce demand on the electric system and support reliable electric service during periods of extreme heat.

New traffic signals coming to Westbrook Boulevard

Crews are installing traffic signals, performing minor paving work, updating road markings, and upgrading street signs along Westbrook Boulevard starting the week of Aug. 3. This planned project helps support traffic needs, pedestrian safety, and the Placer Valley Soccer Complex.

Improving bikeway connections between West Park High School and surrounding neighborhoods

Construction has begun on the Westpark Drive and Phillip Road Bikeway Project. Once complete, it will improve bicycle connectivity between West Park High School and surrounding neighborhoods.

Junction Boulevard and Fairway Drive road resurfacing update

Crews are installing new road markings as the fourth and final step of the resurfacing process. Expect occasional lane closures in the next few weeks. Watch for flashing red signals and flaggers. If no flaggers are present, treat flashing red as an all-way stop.

Fire Cadet program now accepting applications

The Roseville Fire Department is now accepting applications for its Fire Cadet Program, a structured training opportunity for young adults ages 16–20 to explore the fire service while building leadership, teamwork, and life skills.

Through classroom instruction, hands-on training, and mentorship from Roseville firefighters, cadets gain valuable experience in a professional, supervised environment that prepares them for future educational and career opportunities.

Mayor Bernasconi to give State of the City address

Mayor Krista Bernasconi will give the 2026 State of the City address at 9 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 20, at the Placer Valley Soccer Complex. This free event is hosted by the Roseville Area Chamber of Commerce.

Attendees are encouraged to wear appropriate footwear for walking and standing on synthetic turf surfaces. Lace up your kicks and join us on the soccer field to hear about what gives Roseville the home field advantage.

New traffic signals and roadway improvements along Westbrook Boulevard

Crews will install new traffic signals, perform minor paving work, update road markings, and upgrade street signs along Westbrook Boulevard starting Monday, Aug. 3, at the following intersections:

• Solaire Drive

• Earl Rush Drive

• Nicole Gee Drive

• Vista Grande Boulevard

• Sierra Village Drive

This project is designed to support growing traffic needs, pedestrian safety, and the new Placer Valley Soccer Complex.

Junction Boulevard and Fairway Drive road resurfacing update

Crews are installing new road markings as the fourth and final step of the resurfacing process. Expect occasional lane closures in the next few weeks. Watch for flashing red signals and flaggers. If no flaggers are present, treat flashing red as an all-way stop.

Updates to City battery collection options

The City of Roseville is removing battery collection tubes from public facilities as part of an effort to improve safety and reduce fire risks associated with improperly disposed batteries.

Roseville residents can continue to recycle batteries for free through several convenient options.

New rebate helps homeowners fix leaks and save water

A running toilet. A leaking sprinkler line. A slow drip under the sink. Small leaks can waste a surprising amount of water and often aren't discovered until the water bill arrives.

To help homeowners fix leaks sooner, Environmental Utilities has launched a new Leak Repair Rebate. Eligible homeowners can receive a rebate covering 50% of eligible repair costs, up to $750, after an eligible leak is identified during a free Water Wise House Call.
