CANCELED:  Planned Aerial Adulticide Treatment

What: Adult mosquito treatment
Where: Western Placer County

When: Tonight, August 19, 7:30 - 11 p.m.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to fires, high winds and unstable weather conditions, tonight's treatment may be rescheduled.

Depending on wind speed and direction, if tonight's application is able to move forward, the aircraft may not be travelling directly over the application area but will be applied in such a way that any wind will deliver the material into the target areas as seen in the map below. Areas of Lincoln, Roseville and south Placer County near the Sacramento County border, may see the plane flying overhead.

Areas of Placer County are scheduled for an aerial adulticide treatment tonight due to high adult mosquito counts and positive West Nile virus mosquitoes. An EPA-registered mosquito adulticide will be applied in an ultra-low volume fog by aircraft to target adult mosquitoes tonight, August 19, 2020, between 7:30 and 11 p.m.
  • Residential and commercial areas of North Lincoln, north of Auburn Ravine west of Lincoln Blvd
  • Both sides of S Brewer Road north of E Catlett Road
  • Residential and rural areas west of Fiddyment Road in Roseville to the Placer/Sutter County line south of Sunset Blvd W and north of Baseline Rd.
Adult mosquito control treatments are made to prevent the transmission of West Nile virus to people. A number of factors including the aircraft, weather conditions and adult mosquito and disease surveillance information must be considered for a safe and effective application. Due to these factors, the District encourages Placer County residents to check the District website for any changes to the planned treatment schedule and accompanying treatment area maps.

Wind speed and direction is especially important during adult mosquito applications. The District only uses aerial mosquito control contractors who use specialized systems to allow the pilot to measure the wind and fly in a way to deliver the material into the target area. This means that sometimes the aircraft will need to fly upwind of the target area to compensate for the wind.
