Watering days shift to two days a week 

Although we have seen plentiful rainfall and an even healthier snowpack so far this year, drought in California remains.

In accordance with Statewide regulations, starting March 1, watering days shift to two days a week. Residents are permitted to water their landscapes on Monday and Friday, before 10 a.m. or after 8 p.m. Non-residential (commercial, industrial, church, cemeteries, and publicly owned users) may irrigate property on Monday and Thursday, before 10 a.m. or after 8 p.m.

Save the date for Earth Night 2023

Residents and rate payers of Roseville – get ready for Earth Night! Delayed from 2020, this exciting event evolved from previous years’ Earth Day.

The focus of Earth Night will be tied to our utilities, engaging with utility rate payers in a fun environment that will include representatives from both Electric and Environmental Utilities, food trucks, activities for kids, and a live band! This is an excellent opportunity for Roseville families to hang out, enjoy good food and beverages, learn different ways to conserve energy, save water, compost, and more.

Looking to volunteer at a vibrant, community-centric museum? Our Maidu Museum & Historic Site is the place!  We have a number of different volunteer opportunities to fit your schedule, interests and talents. How to prepare for a possible outage

While we can’t always predict when a power outage is going to happen, we can always be prepared when they do. Here’s a few simple ways to stay prepared:

• Keep phones and other devices fully charged
• Keep flashlights and batteries easily accessible
• If the power goes out, unplug all electric appliances and turn each back on one at a time when power is restored.

Like many utilities throughout the United States, Roseville is modernizing its metering system beginning in March. This upgrade includes industry-standard meters, which wirelessly send readings and essential service information to our water and electric utilities. 

The first phase of the project will take approximately three months. Full implementation is tentatively scheduled to begin in July 2023. That portion of the project is expected to take 12-14 months.

Surcharge goes into effect this week

Roseville Electric’s energy surcharge goes into effect this Wednesday, February 1. The 8% increase was approved by City Council in December. The need for this surcharge is a direct result of significant and rapid increases in energy market prices.

We are recharging the groundwater basin using specifically designed groundwater wells. Folsom Reservoir has quickly gained a substantial amount of water with the recent storms. Water releases are needed from the reservoir for flood control. We are capturing water that would have otherwise been lost.

There may be further opportunities to store more water in the aquifers over the coming weeks depending on the need to create additional winter flood capacity at Folsom Reservoir.

Diversifying water sources remains key for meeting future demand

Population growth, regulatory updates and the effects of climate change are just a few of the factors impacting the region's growing imbalance between water supply and consumer demand, according to a new American River Basin study.

Roseville has put in place several key strategies to ensure reliable water supply now and into the future. Among these strategies includes investment in groundwater wells, partnering with Placer County Water Agency on new infrastructure and studying alternative intake possibilities at the Folsom Reservoir.

Calling all artists

We're looking for artists to create a new art piece to be installed at our Veterans Memorial Park North. It should be designed to reflect the spirit of service of our veterans, and serve as a space for reflection and contemplation.

Proposals from interested artists must be submitted by February 10 in order to be included in the selection process.

City crews working on storm clean-up, some trails remain closed 

City crews will be working into next week cleaning up the impacts of the heavy rain and wind from the past week. To report road hazards due to the storms, call Roseville Public Works at (916) 774-5790 during normal business hours. After hours or on weekends, call (916) 774-5000 x 1.

Our creek and flood control systems worked as intended in handling the amount of rain effectively. The City has invested $32 million since the 1980’s to improve our flood control infrastructure. Roseville holds FEMA’s highest flood protection rating.

With no heavy rain in the immediate forecast, the city’s sandbag locations are closed.

As of Tuesday evening, all Roseville Electric customers have power.

The trail south of Saugstad Park to Darling Way is closed until further notice to conduct emergency improvements to protect the creek and a large sewer pipeline. The Miner's Ravine Trail and False Ravine Trail are temporarily closed. Other low-lying trails may have standing water and be subject to closures.

Placer County storm damage survey

Sandbag locations open Sunday and Monday for Roseville residents and businesses

City of Roseville staff continue to actively monitor the incoming storm systems for this weekend and early next week. The storms this weekend are not predicted to bring much rain but will bring heavy winds especially overnight Saturday into Sunday morning. Heavier rain is predicted for Monday and Tuesday. 

With the ground saturated from recent rain, the likelihood of localized power outages is higher than normal due to falling trees and tree limbs.

Roseville Electric crews are on standby to respond quickly to power outages. It is important note that 85 percent of power lines in Roseville are underground.

Here are tips to help you prepare in the case of a power outage:

• Prepare a simple emergency kit.
• Keep phones and other devices fully charged.
• Keep flashlights and batteries easily accessible.

If there is a power line down, stay away and call 911 immediately. Please report any trees in power lines to Roseville Electric at (916) 79-POWER.  For additional safety tips or to report an outage, visit roseville.ca.us/outages.

Creek Levels

Although our creeks will be higher than normal, our creek level modeling does not anticipate any major flooding in Roseville from the impending storms. There may be some standing water in low-lying parks and trails. This is not unusual and is not cause for concern. Roseville creek levels can be monitored at roseville.ca.us/stream. 

City crews are also on standby to respond to localized street flooding and road hazards. To report these call Roseville Public Works at (916) 774-5790 during normal business hours. After hours or on weekends, call (916) 774-5000 x 1.

The City, along with FEMA, have invested $32 million since the 1980s to improve flood control infrastructure. This includes stream widening, adding flood walls and stormwater bypass channels, and performing annual stream maintenance. These efforts mean Roseville holds the nation’s highest FEMA flood protection rating. Less than 7% of the city is within a floodplain, most of which is undeveloped open space.

Washington Boulevard & All America City Roundabout Project Update: Lincoln Street closure 

Lincoln Street, from Washington Boulevard until just before Elefa Street, is closed for the duration of the roundabout project.

The closure will better allow for construction activity and help maintain crew safety during critical phases of the project.

City Council approves Commercial Corridors Project plans 

Roseville City Council unanimously approved the Commercial Corridors Project plans at the December 21 meeting.

The Commercial Corridors Project sets the stage for future investment in three of Roseville's older areas:

• Atlantic Street,
• Douglas and Harding Boulevard, and
• Douglas Boulevard and Sunrise Avenue.

Workforce housing projects easier to build in Roseville with state’s Prohousing Designation 

Affordable, or workforce, housing projects in Roseville will be easier for private developers to fund and build with the City’s earning of the Prohousing Designation from the California Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD). 

Workforce housing is designed to be affordable for families of four earning 80 percent of the area median income. In Roseville, this would mean earning up to $80,000 a year.

“This income level typically includes a broad variety of workers that serve our community, like teachers, tradespeople, police officers, and other entry level professionals,” said Roseville Development Services Director Mike Isom.

“Workforce housing provides more opportunities for people who work in the community to live in the community. There’s real value in that,” said Roseville Mayor Krista Bernasconi.

Roseville Electric has recently received reports of scammers generating automated phone calls to Roseville residents claiming that their bill is past due and they must make an immediate payment to avoid service interruption. This is a scam.

Easy ways to save on water heating costs include insulating the tank and pipes, setting the temperature to 120°, installing low flow showerheads, and washing laundry in cold water.   

Commercial Corridors Project update

The Commercial Corridors Project is scheduled for a public hearing at the City Council meeting on Wednesday, December 21, at 6 p.m. The City Council will consider the approval of the Commercial Corridor Plans.

These plans establish a vision for three of Roseville's older areas and set the stage for civic improvements, new businesses, and housing.

City wins accounting and financial reporting award for 18th consecutive year 

The City has been recognized for excellence in governmental accounting and financial reporting by national government finance experts for the 18th consecutive year.

Roseville was awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for our FY20-21 comprehensive financial report and the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for our FY 22-23 budget from the Government Finance Officers Association.

Each year the City produces a “Budget in Brief” with an overview of that fiscal year’s budget. We recently launched Open Budget to the public with detailed, interactive data dedicated specifically to the City’s budget.

Curbside leaf pickup continues through January 13. Take advantage of Roseville’s free service and help prevent fallen front yard leaves from clogging storm drains.

The FCC’s new National Broadband Map shows internet availability data nationwide. The FCC is accepting input from consumers to improve the map's accuracy.
