Enjoy the tree lighting, visits with Santa, gingerbread houses, the twinkling lights of the tree grove and tavern tastings. It's all part of the fun!

Each year, millions of gallons of leftover paint are generated from households and businesses. In the State of California, it is prohibited to dispose paint in landfills. Proper handling is required to ensure unwanted paint is safely discarded.

Arterial Roadway Resurfacing Project suspended for the winter 

The City has suspended the Arterial Roadway Resurfacing Project until early 2023.

Due to the temperature-sensitive materials used for resurfacing, crews will finish the remainder of the project when weather conditions improve. Temporary pavement striping will be added until the final striping can be installed. Watch for updates early next year before work resumes.

Traffic, Transportation and Free Pizza

Join Placer County Transportation Planning Agency (PCTPA) at events in Roseville to discuss traffic and transportation in south Placer, how it impacts us, and planned improvements. 

PCTPA is providing free pizza for you and your family. Register for either event. Seating is limited.

City distributes portion of American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds to area non-profits

The City of Roseville awarded $350,000 in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds to area non-profits in first of three award cycles that will ultimately reach $1 million in non-profit grant funding.

Roseville Rising helps 11 growing local businesses 

Congratulations to Roseville Venture Lab's first Roseville Rising cohort. Eleven entrepreneurs gained valuable insight to accelerate their growth and five winning businesses received prize packages worth more than $10,000.

Roseville Rising is a program to help early stage entrepreneurs innovate and grow their businesses locally, strengthening our economy.

Turkey Trot registration is filling up fast

Don’t wait to register for our 10^th annual Turkey Trot 5K/10K fun run as spots are filling up quickly! So, get ready to put on your running shoes and wobble before you gobble on Thanksgiving morning, November 24 at 9 a.m. It’s a fun tradition for Roseville families that you won’t want to miss.

Volunteers needed for cleanup at Sculpture Park 

Roll up your sleeves and join us at a community Adopt-A-Creek cleanup event at Sculpture Park. Your hands-on participation helps keep these remarkable natural spaces safe and clean for recreation and other beneficial uses. Community Service Credit is available.

All volunteers must sign and bring a waiver with them to the cleanup event. An additional signature from a parent or guardian is required for minors under the age of 18 years.

Work to close a portion of Baseline Road

Road work is scheduled to temporarily close Baseline Road between Fiddyment Road and Watt Avenue from 9 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 10 through 7 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 13.

Bridge preventative maintenance underway 

The City of Roseville is doing preventative maintenance work to treat and seal more than eight miles of bridge surfacing throughout the city. Keep an eye on digital message boards for work dates and times. Watch for periodic lane closures.

Downtown Library closed for upgrades

The Downtown Library will be closed on Friday, November 18 for technology upgrades. As a result, 9:30 and 10:30 a.m. Storytime sessions on the 18th at this location are canceled. Regular hours will resume Saturday, November 19.

Free Holiday and Native Craft Fairs this weekend

Come and find unique gifts at our free Holiday and Native Craft Fairs this Saturday, November 5! Enjoy the day at our Holiday Craft Fair at the Maidu Community Center from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. as you stroll aisle to aisle discovering treasures at each stop.

Then, travel down the road to the Maidu Museum & Historic Site to visit the All Nations Native Craft Fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. the same day. The Native Craft Fair highlights dozens of Native American artisans from all over California selling their handcrafted items.

Remember to check your soil moisture before you water. Research tells us that people often decide to water their yards just by looking at their plants or if the weather is hot and dry. The result is that often people overwater, applying more than their lawn and plants need. The only way to know is to check soil moisture with a moisture meter or dig down with a hand shovel to determine soil moisture.

Expanding on our relaunched open data portal, Open Roseville, the City has launched Open Budget with detailed data dedicated specifically to the City’s budget and finances.

“Open Budget is a cornerstone of our commitment to transparency. It will give our residents a better understanding of the City’s revenues and spending in a user-friendly, interactive and informative way,” said Dominick Casey, Roseville City Manager.

Measure C proposes an increase in the hotel and lodging tax paid by visitors staying in hotels and short-term rentals in Roseville from 6 percent to 10 percent.

Roseville’s hotel tax was last updated 47 years ago, in 1975. Roseville currently has the lowest hotel tax in the six-county region and one of the lowest in the state. An increase of 4% would add about $5 to the cost of a $125 room stay. And generate about $3 million a year for any municipal purpose including essential services and infrastructure used by visitors.

City lays out five-year technology roadmap 

“Technology is ingrained in our organization and city like never before - from vital public safety communications to robust public engagement to the reliable operation of our utilities to the key backbone functions of our financial team. All of these are vital for a modern municipal government," said Dominick Casey, Roseville City Manager.

Our new 2023-2027 Strategic Technology Roadmap lays out the City’s technology framework for the next five years.

Westbrook Boulevard road closure

Westbrook Boulevard will be closed between Lower Bank Drive and Blue Oaks Boulevard from Oct. 24 through Nov. 18. Follow the detour signs. The closure will allow the neighborhood developer to construct additional lanes more quickly and safely.

New Maidu Museum hours

Ancient petroglyphs, native art and amazing exhibits. Have you been to our Maidu Museum & Historic Site yet? New hours for the facility started on Monday, October 24. Visit soon to learn about all of the exciting things the museum has to offer.

Local non-profits are putting City grant funding to good use

Each year, the City awards grants to local non-profits through the Citizens Benefit Fund, created following the sale of the Roseville Hospital in 1993. The proceeds of the sale were placed in a trust and a portion of the interest earned each year is made available for grants with the purpose of improving the quality of life for the residents of Roseville.

In the last grant funding cycle, $359,334 was awarded to and used by 21 organizations from July 2021 to June 2022. Among those helped with the grant funding included people with disabilities, veterans, families needing stable housing, those in need of reliable meals, teens, children and the elderly.

Holiday and Native Craft Fairs

Come by and find unique gifts at our free Holiday and Native Craft Fairs on Saturday, November 5! Enjoy the day at our Holiday Craft Fair at the Maidu Community Center from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. as you stroll aisle to aisle discovering treasures at each stop.

Then, travel down the road to the Maidu Museum & Historic Site to visit the All Nations Native Craft Fair from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. on the same day. The Native Craft Fair highlights dozens of Native American artisans from all over California selling their handcrafted items. 

New library hours start this week

Expanded hours for all three of our Roseville libraries begin this week. That means more opportunities for you to stop by for a book, to use the computers for research, or to grab a STEAM kit for some hands-on fun.

Commercial Corridors Project Update

Public Hearing Draft Specific Plans for the Commercial Corridors Project are now available.

Each plan establishes a vision for the future, including appropriate development standards, regulatory incentives, and design standards for the three plan areas: Douglas and Sunrise Avenue, Douglas and Harding Boulevard, and Atlantic Street.

Bridge preventative maintenance begins 

The City is beginning preventative maintenance work to treat and seal more than eight miles of bridge surfacing throughout the city. Watch for periodic lane closures. 

Upcoming Westbrook Road closure

Westbrook Boulevard will be closed between Lower Bank Drive and Blue Oaks Boulevard from October 24 through November 18. Follow the detour signs. The closure will allow the neighborhood developer to construct additional lanes more quickly and safely.

Riding Game Day Express is a slam dunk

Watering days shift to one day per week starting November 1

As we move into the fall and winter months, watering days will change from two days a week to one, beginning November 1. Both commercial and residential customers can water on Mondays before 10 a.m. or after 8 p.m.

Remember to check your soil moisture before you water. Research tells us that people often decide to water their yards just by looking at their plants or if the weather is hot and dry. The result is that often people overwater, applying more than their lawn and plants need. The only way to know is to check soil moisture with a moisture meter or dig down with a hand shovel to determine soil moisture.

A hotel and lodging tax is paid by people staying in hotels and short-term rentals.

Roseville’s hotel tax was last updated 47 years ago, in 1975. Roseville currently has the lowest hotel tax in the six-county region and one of the lowest in the state. An increase of 4% would add about $5 to the cost of a $125 room stay. And generate about $3 million a year for any municipal purpose including essential services and infrastructure used by visitors.

The City is in the process of repairing, treating, and sealing more than eight miles of bridge surfacing throughout Roseville. The work is a preventative measure to address normal wear and tear and to protect against the elements. The project is expected to run through early 2023 and is scheduled to minimize traffic backups to the extent possible.

In an effort to understand how public transit can be best served throughout the County, Placer County Transportation Planning Agency is conducting surveys and soliciting feedback from now through November on ideas to improve local transit services.

Turkey Trot registration increases this week

Registration prices for the Roseville Turkey Trot Fun Run (5K or 10K) are going up this Saturday, October 1, so be sure to register now!

Roseville Transit receives electrifying funding

Roseville Transit was recently awarded $13.6 million in grant funding from the federal Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act to continue the transition of its fleet to zero-emission electric buses.

The City was one of only 19 California agencies that received funding for the program.

From garbage trucks to “velociwrappers,” each entry was unique in its own way, truly representing how “We Are Your Roseville Utility.” Thank you to everyone who participated this year.

Now, we need YOUR help! We are putting the finalists’ artwork up for a community vote for each age group. The community choice winners will receive a $100 gift card to an art supply store, while all other finalists will receive a $50 gift card. We will also be providing all finalists with a framed certificate and a 12-month calendar composed of this year’s artwork submissions. Voting will be from now until 11:59 p.m., Friday, September 23.

Upcoming closure for a portion of Watt Avenue

Watt Avenue will be closed in unincorporated Placer County between Baseline and PFE Road from September 22 - October 2.

Please choose an alternate route, or follow detour signs to use Walerga Road. 

During the closure, the roadway will undergo improvements including changing the elevation to better connect to Santucci Boulevard.

Roseville Venture Lab opens to support entrepreneurs Accelerate your business with the Roseville Venture Lab. The entrepreneur center is now open at 316 Vernon Street in Downtown Roseville. Roseville Venture Lab is dedicated to strengthening local startup businesses, spurring job growth, and fostering a community of entrepreneurs through programs, partnerships, workforce development and special events.  The center is a public-private partnership between the City of Roseville and Growth Factory, a nonprofit startup accelerator with an accompanying venture fund.

Proposed surcharge workshop this week

Roseville Electric is proposing an energy surcharge in response to unprecedented drought, a substantial reduction in hydroelectric resources, and skyrocketing fuel prices.

Representatives will be presenting additional details and answering questions at a public outreach workshop Wednesday, September 14. The workshop will start at
6 p.m. at the Roseville Customer Service Center at 116 S. Grant St.

Summer may be over, but the need to save water continues. Learn how to reduce your water usage this fall by making adjustments to your sprinklers and planting low to medium water-use plants. You will also learn how to get your irrigation system ready for winter, otherwise you will be feeling blue.

Adult mosquito treatments by truck overnight

The Cherry Glen and Theiles Manor neighborhoods of Roseville will receive a truck-based adulticide application between 3 - 6 a.m. overnight to limit the spread of invasive yellow fever mosquitoes.

According to the Placer Mosquito and Vector Control District, an EPA-approved mosquito adulticide will be applied in an ultra-low volume fog by truck to target adult mosquitoes.

Meet with Environmental Utilities staff, learn how our groundwater wells work, participate in a blind taste-test, and hear how we manage water resources in Roseville both now and into the future.

Clean up effort restores open space and improves flood safety

Assisting people in need with permanent housing and social services, while also addressing the impacts to the community of homelessness is the focus of the Roseville Homeless Response Team. The team is made up of area non-profits, the Police Social Services Unit and other City services.

Last week, this team completed a multi-day clean-up of the 1600 block of Vernon St near Dry Creek.

Road resurfacing work continues 

Road resurfacing continues in locations around Roseville. Keep an eye on digital message boards for current dates and times for each area. Hours will vary to minimize disruption to residents and motorists. Please travel with care.

The City of Roseville is currently recruiting for high school students interested in serving as a youth representative on the City’s Library Board, Grants Advisory Commission, Parks & Recreation Commission, and Transportation Commission.  

Applications are due to the City Clerk’s Office by 4 p.m., Friday, October 21, 2022.

Help conserve during extreme heat 

Roseville Electric is urging customers to continue conservation efforts as extreme heat drives electricity demand. Residents and businesses alike can reduce their energy usage with simple adjustments like bumping thermostats up to 78 degrees or higher and turning off unnecessary lighting. Conservation helps lower demand and avoid outages, as well as reduce the duration of an outage.

We have a number of resources available to ensure you are receiving the most up-to-date information and conservation tips. 

Extended hours to keep you cool

With the ongoing high temperatures, we are extending hours at the Downtown Library to help you stay cool.

The Downtown Library will be open from 10 a.m. - 8 p.m. Tuesday, September 6 through Friday, September 9.

Surcharge workshop postponed to September 14

Roseville Electric is postponing a proposed energy surcharge workshop to next week. Due to extreme heat throughout the region, we are moving the workshop from September 6 to September 14.

The proposed surcharge is in response to unprecedented drought and a substantial reduction in hydroelectric resources in addition to skyrocketing fuel prices.

Update on water-saving rebates

As we continue to manage drought impacts, we appreciate your commitment to retrofitting your lawns to a more water-wise landscape and reducing indoor use with our toilet rebates.

Due to an overwhelming response, Cash for Grass and toilet rebates are currently postponed. However, you can join our waitlist at waterrebates@roseville.ca.us.

Outdoor efficiency rebates remain available to improve your existing in-ground irrigation systems and automatic timers.

Planning for future water supply and delivery

A new study on changing weather patterns reaffirms the need to modernize and diversify water supply, storage and delivery infrastructure. Rising temperatures and reduced snow pack are among the predictions of the American River Basin Study, recently published by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation. 

Roseville continues to develop groundwater infrastructure for collecting and storing early rainfall as an alternative supply during dry seasons. The City is also looking at ways to modernize and diversify water delivery infrastructure.

Teacher open house 

Are you a teacher in Roseville who would like FREE NSGS Science curriculum for your students? Come to our Teacher Open House at the Utility Exploration Center where you can explore all of the educational materials and offerings we can provide for your students. There will be live demos, FREE curriculum and materials, field trip registration, and refreshments!

The Roseville City Council is accepting applications from citizens 18 or older residing within the City limits of Roseville interested in serving on the Senior Commission.

Applications are to be submitted to the City Clerk's Office by 4 p.m., Friday, September 9.
