Grant applications are open now

The City of Roseville is currently accepting grant applications for fiscal year 2023-2024 through the following:

• Citizens' Benefit Fund
• Roseville Employees Annual Charitable Hearts (REACH)

The deadline to apply is Monday, February 6. Applicants are strongly encouraged to attend the January grant application workshop.

Give the gift of joy

Donate new, unwrapped toys during the annual Toys for Tots drive and bring a child joy this holiday season. Donations are needed for kids of all ages. Toys will be distributed by local nonprofit organizations to those in need.  

Ceremonial Swearing In of Mayor and City Council Members

A ceremonial swearing in ceremony for the mayor and City Council members will take place at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 7 in the Rotunda of the Civic Center, 311 Vernon St., following the adjournment of the regular City Council meeting in Council Chambers. The public is invited to attend.

First week of Neighborhood Santa gets underway

Get ready! Santa and his elves are coming to a neighborhood near you. This week he is on the road Tuesday - Thursday (December 6 - 8), starting at 6 p.m. Be sure to check for route information and how to get live updates on our website. All visits are weather permitting. 

“People’s Choice Award” – There’s still time to vote

Vote today for the People's Choice Award for both the Tree Grove and Gingerbread House Contest. The competition is fierce but you get to decide who comes out on top.

The Tree Grove is open anytime and gingerbread houses may be viewed during regular Civic Center hours, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., Monday - Friday. Both voting and displays end on December 8. If you can’t visit in person, you can still vote online.

Dive into winter swimming

It’s raining, it’s pouring, but you can still go swimming! Our Mike Shellito Indoor Pool is open for Rec Swim on Saturdays and Sundays, 1 - 4 p.m. The water is warm, the inflatable obstacle course is out, it only costs $6 AND it can keep your kids active while having fun this holiday season.

Recycling through the holidays 

The most wonderful time of the year is here! Whether hanging up lights, decorating trees, celebrating with family and friends, exchanging gifts – or all of the above, remember that recycling will play a big part in reducing your garbage this year.

Free Curbside Leaf Pickup 

Curbside leaf pickup continues through January 13. Take advantage of Roseville’s free service and help prevent fallen front yard leaves from clogging storm drains.

Need high speed internet service? The FCC wants to know.

The FCC’s new National Broadband Map shows internet availability data nationwide and is accepting input from consumers to improve the map's accuracy.

Search for your home or small business on the map.  If the reported service or speed is not available for purchase, submit a correction to the FCC.  You can also check and compare mobile coverage in your area. An accurate map will help identify the unserved and underserved communities for high-speed internet infrastructure investments.

Diversifying our water sources

Since 1971, Roseville has relied on Folsom Reservoir as a primary water source. Nearly half of our surface water needs currently come from the reservoir.

As we plan for future water reliability, Roseville continues to diversify water supply sources through agency agreements, investing in groundwater infrastructure, and two regional wastewater treatment plants that recycle water for irrigation in parks, landscapes and golf courses.

North Pole Pajama Party

Send your kids on a trip to the North Pole where they can create gifts in the elves' workshop, play reindeer games and enjoy a cup of Hot Cocoa! There are two sessions available at Riley Library (ages 6-10):

With the cooler weather, your landscapes may not need as much water. Give your sprinklers a holiday during the rainy season by adjusting your timer to reduce run times or even turning them off completely when it's raining.

You can also install weather-based sprinkler timers that will adjust to local weather and landscape conditions for you!

Proper paint disposal

Each year, millions of gallons of leftover paint are generated from households and businesses. In the State of California, it is prohibited to dispose paint in landfills. Proper handling is required to ensure unwanted paint is safely discarded.

Arterial Roadway Resurfacing Project suspended for the winter 

The City has suspended the Arterial Roadway Resurfacing Project until early 2023.

Due to the temperature-sensitive materials used for resurfacing, crews will finish the remainder of the project when weather conditions improve. Temporary pavement striping will be added until the final striping can be installed. Watch for updates early next year before work resumes.

Placer County Transportation Planning Agency (PCTPA) is preparing a long-range transportation plan, known as the Regional Transportation Plan (RTP). The plan projects population, jobs and housing growth, estimates future revenues, and outlines transportation investment priorities for the next 25 years in Placer County, excluding the Tahoe Basin.

Turkey Trot fun run sold out

City distributes portion of American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds to area non-profits

The City of Roseville awarded $350,000 in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds to area non-profits in first of three award cycles that will ultimately reach $1 million in non-profit grant funding.

Roseville Rising helps 11 growing local businesses 

Congratulations to Roseville Venture Lab's first Roseville Rising cohort. Eleven entrepreneurs gained valuable insight to accelerate their growth and five winning businesses received prize packages worth more than $10,000.

Roseville Rising is a program to help early stage entrepreneurs innovate and grow their businesses locally, strengthening our economy.

Turkey Trot registration is filling up fast

Don’t wait to register for our 10^th annual Turkey Trot 5K/10K fun run as spots are filling up quickly! So, get ready to put on your running shoes and wobble before you gobble on Thanksgiving morning, November 24 at 9 a.m. It’s a fun tradition for Roseville families that you won’t want to miss.

Volunteers needed for cleanup at Sculpture Park 

Roll up your sleeves and join us at a community Adopt-A-Creek cleanup event at Sculpture Park. Your hands-on participation helps keep these remarkable natural spaces safe and clean for recreation and other beneficial uses. Community Service Credit is available.

All volunteers must sign and bring a waiver with them to the cleanup event. An additional signature from a parent or guardian is required for minors under the age of 18 years.

Work to close a portion of Baseline Road

Road work is scheduled to temporarily close Baseline Road between Fiddyment Road and Watt Avenue from 9 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 10 through 7 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 13.

Bridge preventative maintenance underway 

The City of Roseville is doing preventative maintenance work to treat and seal more than eight miles of bridge surfacing throughout the city. Keep an eye on digital message boards for work dates and times. Watch for periodic lane closures.

Downtown Library closed for upgrades

The Downtown Library will be closed on Friday, November 18 for technology upgrades. As a result, 9:30 and 10:30 a.m. Storytime sessions on the 18th at this location are canceled. Regular hours will resume Saturday, November 19.

Come enjoy a celebratory, free family-friendly event to honor the service and sacrifice of those who serve in our military. Honoring Veterans is taking place 6 p.m., Thursday, November 10 in Vernon Street Town Square.

Free Holiday and Native Craft Fairs this weekend

Come and find unique gifts at our free Holiday and Native Craft Fairs this Saturday, November 5! Enjoy the day at our Holiday Craft Fair at the Maidu Community Center from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. as you stroll aisle to aisle discovering treasures at each stop.

Then, travel down the road to the Maidu Museum & Historic Site to visit the All Nations Native Craft Fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. the same day. The Native Craft Fair highlights dozens of Native American artisans from all over California selling their handcrafted items.

Watering days shift to one day per week

As we move into the fall and winter months, watering days are shifting from two days a week to one, starting November 1. Both commercial and residential customers can water on Mondays before 10 a.m. or after 8 p.m.

Remember to check your soil moisture before you water. Research tells us that people often decide to water their yards just by looking at their plants or if the weather is hot and dry. The result is that often people overwater, applying more than their lawn and plants need. The only way to know is to check soil moisture with a moisture meter or dig down with a hand shovel to determine soil moisture. 

Easier access to City finances and budget now available through Open Budget 

Expanding on our relaunched open data portal, Open Roseville, the City has launched Open Budget with detailed data dedicated specifically to the City’s budget and finances.

“Open Budget is a cornerstone of our commitment to transparency. It will give our residents a better understanding of the City’s revenues and spending in a user-friendly, interactive and informative way,” said Dominick Casey, Roseville City Manager.

Learn more about Measure C, a hotel and lodging tax measure on the November ballot

Measure C proposes an increase in the hotel and lodging tax paid by visitors staying in hotels and short-term rentals in Roseville from 6 percent to 10 percent.

Roseville’s hotel tax was last updated 47 years ago, in 1975. Roseville currently has the lowest hotel tax in the six-county region and one of the lowest in the state. An increase of 4% would add about $5 to the cost of a $125 room stay. And generate about $3 million a year for any municipal purpose including essential services and infrastructure used by visitors.

Energy saving tips you really Autumn know

Saving energy and money can be easy and inexpensive. These tips can help you conserve energy and save money this fall season, without compromising your comfort:

• Water heating consumes up to 20% of total household energy use (energy.gov). Adjust your water heater temperature to 120°F and wash your clothes in cold water and try only running full loads.
• Heating the house makes up about 29% of the average household utility bill (energy.gov). Replace your HVAC air filter monthly, or at least every 3 months, and check your ducts.

Watering days shift to one day per week starting November 1

As we move into the fall and winter months, watering days will change from two days a week to one, beginning November 1. Both commercial and residential customers can water on Mondays before 10 a.m. or after 8 p.m.

Remember to check your soil moisture before you water. Research tells us that people often decide to water their yards just by looking at their plants or if the weather is hot and dry. The result is that often people overwater, applying more than their lawn and plants need. The only way to know is to check soil moisture with a moisture meter or dig down with a hand shovel to determine soil moisture.

Measure C proposes an increase in the hotel and lodging tax paid by visitors staying in hotels and short-term rentals in Roseville from 6 percent to 10 percent.

Roseville’s hotel tax was last updated 47 years ago, in 1975. Roseville currently has the lowest hotel tax in the six-county region and one of the lowest in the state. An increase of 4% would add about $5 to the cost of a $125 room stay. And generate about $3 million a year for any municipal purpose including essential services and infrastructure used by visitors.

Changing of the seasons means curbside leaf pickup begins October 31 and continues through January 13.

Energy saving tips you really Autumn know

Saving energy and money can be easy and inexpensive. These tips can help you conserve energy and save money this fall season, without compromising your comfort:

• Water heating consumes up to 20% of total household energy use (energy.gov). Adjust your water heater temperature to 120°F and wash your clothes in cold water and try only running full loads.
• Heating the house makes up about 29% of the average household utility bill (energy.gov). Replace your HVAC air filter monthly, or at least every 3 months, and check your ducts.

City lays out five-year technology roadmap 

“Technology is ingrained in our organization and city like never before - from vital public safety communications to robust public engagement to the reliable operation of our utilities to the key backbone functions of our financial team. All of these are vital for a modern municipal government," said Dominick Casey, Roseville City Manager.

Our new 2023-2027 Strategic Technology Roadmap lays out the City’s technology framework for the next five years.

Bridge preventative maintenance underway 

The City of Roseville has begun preventative maintenance work to treat and seal more than eight miles of bridge surfacing throughout the city. Watch for periodic lane closures.

Westbrook Boulevard road closure

Westbrook Boulevard will be closed between Lower Bank Drive and Blue Oaks Boulevard from Oct. 24 through Nov. 18. Follow the detour signs. The closure will allow the neighborhood developer to construct additional lanes more quickly and safely.

New Maidu Museum hours

Ancient petroglyphs, native art and amazing exhibits. Have you been to our Maidu Museum & Historic Site yet? New hours for the facility started on Monday, October 24. Visit soon to learn about all of the exciting things the museum has to offer.

Local non-profits are putting City grant funding to good use

Each year, the City awards grants to local non-profits through the Citizens Benefit Fund, created following the sale of the Roseville Hospital in 1993. The proceeds of the sale were placed in a trust and a portion of the interest earned each year is made available for grants with the purpose of improving the quality of life for the residents of Roseville.

In the last grant funding cycle, $359,334 was awarded to and used by 21 organizations from July 2021 to June 2022. Among those helped with the grant funding included people with disabilities, veterans, families needing stable housing, those in need of reliable meals, teens, children and the elderly.

Holiday and Native Craft Fairs

Come by and find unique gifts at our free Holiday and Native Craft Fairs on Saturday, November 5! Enjoy the day at our Holiday Craft Fair at the Maidu Community Center from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. as you stroll aisle to aisle discovering treasures at each stop.

Then, travel down the road to the Maidu Museum & Historic Site to visit the All Nations Native Craft Fair from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. on the same day. The Native Craft Fair highlights dozens of Native American artisans from all over California selling their handcrafted items. 

New library hours start this week

Expanded hours for all three of our Roseville libraries begin this week. That means more opportunities for you to stop by for a book, to use the computers for research, or to grab a STEAM kit for some hands-on fun.

Each plan establishes a vision for the future, including appropriate development standards, regulatory incentives, and design standards for the three plan areas: Douglas and Sunrise Avenue, Douglas and Harding Boulevard, and Atlantic Street.

Bridge preventative maintenance begins 

The City is beginning preventative maintenance work to treat and seal more than eight miles of bridge surfacing throughout the city. Watch for periodic lane closures.

The City is in the process of repairing, treating, and sealing more than eight miles of bridge surfacing throughout Roseville. The work is a preventative measure to address normal wear and tear and to protect against the elements. The project is expected to run through early 2023 and is scheduled to minimize traffic backups to the extent possible.

In an effort to understand how public transit can be best served throughout the County, Placer County Transportation Planning Agency is conducting surveys and soliciting feedback from now through November on ideas to improve local transit services.
