Watch the 2022 State of the City address

If you were unable to attend the 2022 State of the City address by Mayor Krista Bernasconi on August 26, you can watch it or read the text of the speech here.

Mayor Bernasconi dedicated the address to Sgt. Nicole Gee and Corporal Gurpreet Singh, both from Roseville. Sgt. Gee was one of 13 killed in a terrorist attack in Afghanistan as she evacuated families at the airport in Kabul on August 26, 2021. Corporal Singh died at the age of 21 from injuries conducting combat operations in Afghanistan. 

Workshop to discuss proposed energy surcharge

These are challenging times for the electric utility industry, especially here in California. Our state is grappling with unprecedented drought and a substantial reduction in hydroelectric resources in addition to skyrocketing fuel prices. These factors are causing a significant and rapid increase in costs.

Roseville Electric is proposing a temporary surcharge to address these challenges. This approach gives us more time to understand if the energy price spikes we are currently experiencing is transitory or part of a more durable trend in the energy markets. Join us at an upcoming workshop on September 6 to learn more.

Watering days shift to two days per week 

Watering days will shift from three days to two days per week on September 1 to manage ongoing drought conditions. The new schedule lasts until October 31.

Residential customers can water on Mondays and Fridays. Commercial customers can water on Mondays and Thursdays. Customers using drip irrigation are not subject to watering days.

Roundabout construction underway

Washington Boulevard will remain open to traffic. Be prepared for possible delays.

Upgrades will also include new crosswalks, enhanced safety and accessibility for bicyclists and pedestrians, extension of the nearby multi-use trail, landscaping and improved roadway aesthetics.

Emergency notification testing this Thursday

On Thursday, August 25, Roseville along with 12 other cities, 3 Counties and 1 Tribal Nation will exercise the Regional Mass Notification System. The primary objective of this exercise is to test the Regional Mass Notification system’s capability, capacity and effectiveness to deliver emergency notifications to the public during times of a major disaster. 

The test will be inclusive of those that have opted into the local Emergency Alert system (cell, landline and email) and the residential landlines in the 911 data system. The test alert will display on phones as 833-422-5253 – residents can now save this number in their phone as “Emergency Alert” so they recognize critical alerts. 

The test will also use the Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) System, a federal emergency system that uses geographically drawn boundaries to alert people in specific areas. A WEA alert causes cell phones to vibrate and omit a different tone than a ringing phone - much like an Amber Alert.

Mosquito treatment happening overnight in Hillcrest neighborhood 

The Placer Mosquito and Vector Control district announced the Hillcrest neighborhood will receive a truck-based adulticide application to limit the spread of invasive yellow fever mosquitoes from 3:30 – 6 a.m., Wednesday, August 24. 

An EPA-approved mosquito adulticide will be applied in an ultra-low volume fog by truck to target adult mosquitoes. Residents are advised to avoid using the trail during the treatment period.

The Affordable Connectivity Program is a federal government program that helps qualifying low-income households pay for broadband service and internet connected devices.

Need assistance paying your water or wastewater bill?

If you need assistance with the water or wastewater portion of your bill, you might be eligible through a temporary assistance program from the State of California.

The Low Income Household Water Assistance Program is available to eligible Roseville Utilities customers.

Traffic signals will be dark at the intersection of Stanford Ranch Road and Five Star Boulevard due to construction, 10 p.m. Friday, August 26 through 5 a.m. Saturday, August 27. All travelers must treat this intersection as an all-way stop. Drive with care.

Free weekend events

We’ve got you covered with several free events in Vernon Street Town Square this weekend. Grab your chairs and blankets and start with a movie. Friday Flicks: Spider-Man: No Way Home takes place this Friday, August 19. The movie will start shortly after sunset. Enhance your experience with a movie-pack.

Then on Saturday, August 20, it’s our latest Concert on the Square featuring Carnival – a Santana Tribute Band. The rhythms will keep you dancing all night while you enjoy the beer garden and food trucks. Gates open at 6:30pm, show starts at 7:30pm.

Due to PG&E work, northbound New Meadow Drive will be closed at Blue Oaks Boulevard from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Thursday, August 18 and Friday, August 19.

Northbound traffic may detour to Woodcreek Oaks Boulevard and then continue to Parkside Way. Please travel with care and allow extra time.

We want to help you showcase your creativity and your business. We’re looking for hand-made craft vendors for our Holiday Craft Fair on November 5 from 9 a.m. to
3 p.m. at the Maidu Community Center.

We’re also looking for family-friendly vendors with fun and interactive components for our Family Fest event taking place on September 24 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Vendor applications for both events are available online.

Commercial Corridors Project Update: Preliminary draft plans now available 

Help shape the Commercial Corridors Project. Preliminary draft Specific Plans are now available for public review and comment.

The plans establish a vision for three of Roseville's older areas and set the stage for civic improvements, new businesses and housing.

New radio communications tower to serve critical city operations 

To better serve emergency and critical city operations, the City of Roseville is planning to build a new radio communications tower in east Roseville.

The City’s radio system handles approximately 1.5 million transmissions per year.

A City-owned vacant parcel at 2001 Strauch Drive was identified to best provide public safety-grade radio coverage throughout east Roseville including both hospitals, enhanced emergency power capabilities, and future public safety needs.

Please keep our recycling sites clean and operational

Although we encourage residences to toss everything in their trash bin, we also have other alternatives to recycle things like flattened cardboard, newspapers, bottles, and more at drop off locations in Roseville. These sites are designated for these recyclable items, not trash. We have noticed some of our recycling drop-off areas being littered with illegal dumping. If you see illegal dumping occurring, please contact us at (916) 774-5780.  

Help us keep these sites clean and operational by keeping them trash-free and flattening your cardboard before unloading, as this is a free benefit to Roseville residents.

State of the City speech set for August 26

City makes $1 million in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds available for community benefit 

Roseville received $17 million in one-time funds from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) of 2021 to assist with City and community needs. The Roseville City Council allocated $1 million of these funds to the Roseville Grants Advisory Commission for distribution to the Roseville community.

The Grants Advisory Commission will grant these funds using the current commission guidelines which follow the City Council budget priorities. The ARPA funds will be disbursed over the next three fiscal years through the Grants Advisory Commission process.

The first round of applications are currently open. Applications are due to the City by
5 p.m., August 12.

Host a National Night Out event in your neighborhood August 2

Roseville Police and Fire will be visiting neighborhoods around the city promoting community safety and meeting with neighbors during National Night Out. 

National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live.

National Park and Recreation month is coming to an end but there are still a few days left to have some fun with our Park and Rec Month Challenge. All you have to do is visit 10 different parks, recreation locations or libraries in Roseville by July 31.Then, bring us a list with the name of the park and the date you visited to get a prize.

Washington and All America City Boulevard Roundabout Project to begin

Construction on a new roundabout at the intersection of Washington and All America City Boulevard begins in the next couple of weeks. Work will continue through summer 2023.

Upgrades will also include new crosswalks, enhanced safety and accessibility for bicyclists and pedestrians, extension of the nearby multi-use trail, landscaping and improved roadway aesthetics.

Road resurfacing work continues 

Road resurfacing continues in locations around Roseville. Keep an eye on digital message boards for current dates and times for each area. Hours will vary to minimize disruption to residents and motorists. Please travel with care.

To better serve emergency and critical city operations, the City of Roseville is planning to build a new radio communications tower in east Roseville.

The City’s radio system handles approximately 1.5 million transmissions per year.

A City-owned vacant parcel at 2001 Strauch Drive was identified to best provide public safety-grade radio coverage throughout east Roseville including both hospitals, enhanced emergency power capabilities, and future public safety needs.

Local non-profits receive more than $275,000 in grants funds from City 

At its July 12 meeting, the Roseville Grants Advisory Commission presented 21 local non-profits $279,681 in competitive grant funding from the City’s Citizens’ Benefit Fund and Roseville Employees Annual Charitable Hearts (REACH) Fund.

The Citizens’ Benefit Fund was established in 1993 following the sale of the city-owned Roseville Hospital. The proceeds were placed in a trust and a portion of the interest earned each year is made available for grants with the purpose of improving the quality of life for the residents of Roseville.

Since 1994, more than $16.5 million have been awarded to local non-profits from the trust.

We want your ideas to help us name three new parks. The City Clerk's office is currently accepting submissions for:

• NC-57: A one acre fenced off-leash dog park located off of Antelope Creek Drive.
• Gibson Park Site: A 13.33 acre park site located at Gibson Drive and Roseville Parkway near the Galleria.
• Sports Complex: This is a 45 acre long field sports complex in West Roseville off of Westbrook and Brookstone Drives.

The deadline to submit is 3 p.m. Friday, July 29. 

Roseville Aquatics Complex updates

We’ve got some good news and some bad news to share. First the bad news...due to staffing challenges, the Roseville Aquatics Complex (RAC) is no longer open on Sundays. But don’t worry because you can still swim 1-4 p.m. on Sundays at Mike Shellito Indoor Pool. New RAC hours for recreational swim are Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 1-4 p.m. & Saturdays 1-5 p.m.

Now for the good news…the slide at the RAC is open! The “Otter Run” takes you on a few twists and turns before you plunge into the water.
