Provide your input on draft City Council district maps at public meetings this month

The final group of draft Roseville City Council district maps are the subject of six public meetings at five different locations around the city this month. See the draft maps and demographic details at Roseville.ca.us/redistricting.

The Roseville Independent Redistricting Commission public meetings will be held:

• 6 p.m., Thursday, January 6, Maidu Community Center, 1550 Maidu Drive
• 6 p.m., Tuesday, January 11, City Council Chambers, 311 Vernon Street
• 6 p.m., Thursday, January 13, Mike Shellito Indoor Pool, 10210 Fairway Drive
• 2 p.m., Saturday, January 15, City Council Chambers, 311 Vernon Street
• 6 p.m., Tuesday, January 18, Martha Riley Library, 1501 Pleasant Grove Blvd
• 6 p.m., Thursday, January 20, St. John’s Episcopal Church, 2351 Pleasant Grove Blvd

As an independent body, the Independent Redistricting Commission is empowered to adopt the district boundaries, without City Council approval. The Commission will make the final map selection at its January 24 public meeting.

Placer County Public Health extends its health warning as COVID hospitalizations surge

Placer County Public Health is extending its late summer Health Warning and urging all residents to use high-quality medical masks while in all indoor settings around others to protect against the highly infectious Omicron and Delta COVID-19 variants.

The rapid increase in cases and hospitalizations in recent days strongly suggests Omicron is spreading widely in Placer and throughout the region.

Commercial Corridors project update

The City is developing specific plans for three older commercial corridors.

These plans establish a vision for the future and set the stage for revitalized streetscapes, civic improvements, and new businesses and housing.

Preliminary draft land use maps are now available for public review and comment through January 12.

Explore the Draft Regional Trail Network

Check out the Draft Regional Trail Network and see where 1,200 miles of proposed trails could take you!

The network identifies existing trails, planned trails, and trail study corridors to connect important destinations. These trails would span Sutter, Yolo, Yuba, El Dorado, Placer and Sacramento Counties.

The plan was developed by the Sacramento Area Council of Governments.

Electric rate adjustment begins this month

Roseville Electric Utility’s rate adjustment will go into effect starting with January bills. For the average residential household, this will equate to an increase of approximately $4 per month in 2022.

The adjustment, which is the first rate increase in over seven years, was approved by the Roseville City Council in November. The adjustment is necessary due to an increase in the cost of delivering utility services, from meeting changing regulatory requirements to maintaining our workforce.

Cozy up to energy savings 

Staying comfortable while saving energy is important no matter the season. 

Here are some simple, cool-weather conservation tips:

• Keep vents open and air flowing. Closing doors and room vents puts extra strain on the central heating system.
• Open drapes and shades on sunny days to let in heat from the sun; close them at night and on cloudy days.
• And, set your thermostat to 68 degrees and lower it to 55 degrees at night or when you’re away from home. Remember that if you lower your thermostat by two degrees during the winter, you can save about 10% on the operating cost of your heater.
