Understanding FEMA's flood maps

While Roseville is ranked a FEMA Class I community when it comes to flood preparedness, flood risk can change over time because of weather patterns, changes to development, and other factors.

To ensure the public has the most reliable information, FEMA periodically studies and updates flood hazard maps. In 2024, a small number of affected properties received a letter about FEMA’s proposed changes.

Attend a community meeting on Thursday, Jan. 16 to learn about these preliminary map updates, discuss insurance options with FEMA, and talk with representatives from the City of Roseville and Placer County Flood Control & Water Conservation District.

Bosch to receive up to $225 million in proposed CHIPS Act funding for Roseville manufacturing site

Bosch has signed a preliminary agreement under the CHIPS and Science Act for up to $225 million in funding from the U.S. Department of Commerce to support the transformation of the Bosch production facility in Roseville.

Bosch plans to invest up to $1.9 billion to transform the Roseville site into a location that produces and tests silicon carbide semiconductors.

In addition to training its current workforce, Bosch is also investing locally to help build up semiconductor expertise for the future. The Bosch Community Fund provided a $100,000 grant to the Sierra College Foundation for its Career Technical Education Support Fund.

Roseville Mayor, Vice Mayor, and City Councilmembers sworn in

Krista Bernasconi’s title changed from vice mayor to mayor when she was sworn in as Roseville’s 59th mayor for a second two-year mayoral term at a special City Council meeting held on December 11. 

Karen Alvord, who won the District 5 seat in the November election, was sworn in as vice mayor, and will become Mayor in 2026. She replaces Councilmember Scott Alvord, who termed out after being elected to two consecutive four-year terms.

Incumbents Bruce Houdesheldt (District 3), who finished a two-year term as Mayor on December 11 and previously served as vice mayor, and Tracy Mendonsa (District 1) were sworn in for additional four-year terms as Councilmembers after being unopposed in their districts.

Sean Bigley named Roseville Environmental Utilities Director

On Friday, December 13, Roseville City Manager Dominick Casey announced the appointment of Sean Bigley as the new Roseville Environmental Utilities (EU) Director following a highly competitive statewide recruitment process. Bigley will succeed Rich Plecker who is retiring at the end of this year. Congratulations Sean!

Neighborhood Santa is back

Recreational swim special hours

It might be cold outside but the water at the Mike Shellito Indoor pool is just right! We have special recreational swim hours coming up:

• December 23, 27 & 30: 1:30 – 3:30 p.m.
• December 28 & 29: 1 – 4 p.m.

Jump in for a swim, or splash through the inflatable obstacle course, all for just $7.

Roseville Venture Lab programs for high school students

Apply by December 30

Roseville Rising: An engaging 14-week program that inspires entrepreneurial ideas and unleashes innovation. There is no cost to participate.    Technical Product Design: Discover product design and development by learning how to bring creative concepts to life using computer-aided design (CAD) and 3D printers.

The Roseville Venture Lab entrepreneur center is a public-private partnership between the City of Roseville and nonprofit Growth Factory.

Upcoming lane and road closures

• Lane closure on Fiddyment Road: Road work near the median will close a southbound lane, just north of Pleasant Grove Boulevard. The northbound bike lane will also be unavailable. Construction is related to the nearby shopping center and is expected to take approximately five to six weeks to complete.
• Overnight Baseline Road closure: Baseline Road will be closed between Fiddyment Road and Market Street. The work is occurring December 17 - 23. Closures will be overnight, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
• Overnight closure on Washington Boulevard: Work is temporarily closing Washington Boulevard between Oak Street and Church Street from 10 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 20 through 6 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 21.

Travel with care. Schedules are subject to change due to inclement weather or other unforeseen conditions.

Placer County Emergency Notification Testing

A county-wide test of our Placer Alert emergency notification system will take place on Thursday, December 12, at 12 p.m. (12/12 at 12 p.m.)

Placer Alert is the county’s mass notification system. It’s a critical communication tool to warn you of immediate danger, such as wildfire evacuations or shelter in place notifications. This is an “opt-in,” address-based system that allows for more precise geographical targeted alerts. Residents can sign up for multiple addresses/devices to cover every location they wish to receive alerts.

Neighborhood Santa starts tonight

Santa is ready to visit neighborhoods near you starting this evening, December 10-12, at 6 p.m. Any changes, due to weather, will be posted on social media by 5 p.m. Don’t worry if you miss him—he’ll be back on December 17-19 for more neighborhood visits!

Spread joy through Toys for Tots

Give a child the gift of joy this holiday season by donating new, unwrapped toys for those in need during Toys for Tots. Donations are needed for kids of all ages and will be distributed by local nonprofit organizations to those in need.

Lane closures on Fiddyment Road

Road work near the median will begin on Fiddyment Road, just north of Pleasant Grove Boulevard, starting the week of December 10. During this time, one southbound lane   will be closed, and the northbound bike lane will also be unavailable. The construction is expected to take approximately five to six weeks to complete. To minimize traffic delays, some work will be scheduled overnight. The overnight work will occur from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Keep an eye on digital message signs to display up-to-date schedule information.

Overnight Baseline Road closure

Road work is temporarily closing Baseline Road between Fiddyment Road and Market Street. The work is occurring December 15 - 20 and 22 - 23. Closures will be overnight, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Please use the detour and allow extra travel time. Construction schedules are subject to change.

Overnight closure on Washington Boulevard

Work is temporarily closing Washington Boulevard between Oak Street and Church Street from 10 p.m. on Friday, December 20 through 6 a.m. on Saturday, Decemeber 21.

Please choose an alternate route or follow detour signs. Allow extra travel time.

Fair Housing Virtual Workshop

The City of Roseville is working with Project Sentinel to present a Fair Housing Virtual Workshop. Project Sentinel will provide an introductory overview of fair housing rights and provide examples including reasonable accommodations, source of income protections, and tips to practice your housing rights.

The workshop will be Thursday, December 5 from 1-2 p.m. 

Take advantage of E-bike rebates this holiday

Our income-qualified customers are eligible for higher rebate amounts of $200-$600. The E-bike must meet program requirements.

Overnight Baseline Road closure

Road work is temporarily closing Baseline Road between Fiddyment Road and Market Street. The work is occurring December 15 - 20 and 22 - 23. Closures will be overnight, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Please use the detour and allow extra travel time. Construction schedules are subject to change due to weather.

Ryan Harrigan named Roseville Fire Chief

Roseville City Manager Dominick Casey recently announced the appointment of Ryan Harrigan as the new Roseville Fire Chief, following a highly competitive internal recruitment process. Harrigan will succeed Chief Rick Bartee who announced his intent to retire at the end of this year. Chief Bartee is set to retire after 43 years of distinguished and dedicated service as a fire professional, including nine years as the Fire Chief of Roseville.

Harrigan currently serves as Assistant Fire Chief for the Roseville Fire Department and has over 23 years of emergency response and leadership experience. He will assume the role of Chief on November 30.

Reminder: Even holidays don’t stop trash and recycling!

If your trash, recycling, or green waste collection day falls on a holiday, don’t worry—our trucks are still rolling. Here’s how to keep things on track:

• Early bird gets the bin emptied! Make sure your containers are at the curb by 6 a.m. sharp. (No sleeping in, even for your trash!)
• Containers need personal space, too. Place your green waste container next to your garbage container in the street, but keep at least 4 to 6 feet between them.
• Clear the way: Ensure plenty of space around the containers so our crew can do their magic.

With $100 million in new contracts, Nate’s Fine Foods plans $11 million expansion 

Nate’s Fine Foods, based in Roseville since 2012, is a full-service cooking and packing facility for the food service industry that uses locally sourced products and natural ingredients to support major food industry clients nationwide. Fueled by $100 million in new client contracts, the company plans to invest $11 million to expand its Roseville facilities, driving $924 million in total regional economic output and creating 75 additional full-time jobs.

Celebrating 50 years of Affordable Housing

The Roseville Housing Authority (RHA) is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. Since 1974, RHA has helped provide reliable and affordable housing for those in need in Roseville through its Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) rental assistance program.

Since its inception, RHA has used over $132 million in federal funds to expand its housing choice vouchers tenfold-from just 83 vouchers in 1974 to 852 in 2024. Each of those vouchers assists an individual or family with renting a home they may not have otherwise been able to access.

Transportation 360: Draft master plans to be considered

Over the last year, the City of Roseville has been gathering public input to help guide master plan updates for future Roseville Transit services and improvements to our pedestrian and bike network.

• Roseville Transit: The Draft Plan is now available for public review. In early 2025, the City Council will consider adoption of the plan.
• Active (bike and pedestrian) transportation: The Draft Plan will be released in early 2025. The City Council will consider adoption of the plan in spring 2025.

Community Needs Workshops and Discussions

The City of Roseville is holding two Community Needs Workshops and Discussions to better understand the affordable housing and social service needs of the community to inform the five-year plan for the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program.

The meetings will be held on Tuesday, November 19, at 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. respectively, in Civic Center Meeting Rooms 1 & 2, 311 Vernon Street, Roseville, CA. The meetings will also be available for virtual attendance.

These community discussions will solicit public comments on local priority needs that will help guide future use of these federal grant funds for services, housing, and community programs and improvements, and guide the preparation of the City of Roseville’s 2025 Annual Action Plan and 2025-2029 Consolidated Plan.

Upcoming citywide hydrant testing

The City will be conducting hydrant testing from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on November 19 and 20. Select hydrants across the city will be opened during this time to simulate peak and fire flow conditions. This work is part of our commitment to providing you with a dependable, high-quality water system.

During this work, you might notice slight changes in water pressure, but your water service won’t be interrupted. Our onsite team will keep everything running smoothly and handle any temporary adjustments.

Call to artists for Placer Valley Soccer Complex

Honoring Veterans this week

Come out for an evening of remembrance and celebration as we gather to honor those who have served and continue to serve in our military. It’s Santa! He’s coming to town, so you better watch out as he heads to your neighborhood on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings for Neighborhood Santa from December 10-19 starting at 6 p.m. (weather permitting). Routes are now available on our website.

Temporary parking garage closures in Downtown Roseville

The Oak Street Parking Garage is undergoing speed bump installations this week. All parking garage levels will be closed, except for the first floor to access ADA spaces. Please plan ahead:

• 200 Oak Street will be closed through November 8

While work is being done, please use the other open parking garage or the alternate parking options available. Schedules are subject to change.

Night work update for Pleasant Grove Boulevard Widening Project

Night work to complete roadway paving will continue from 7 p.m. on November 5 through 6 a.m. on November 6.

Expect intermittent lane closures and construction noise along Pleasant Grove Boulevard. Keep an eye on digital message boards for current construction information. Be on the lookout for flaggers, slow down, and travel with care.

Are you a foodie interested in previewing up-and-coming restaurants? Join us at the Roseville Rising Culinary Showcase and sample cuisine from emerging local food entrepreneurs. You’ll be able to connect with these restaurateurs and enjoy creative food and beverages. The event is open to the public.

Culinary entrepreneurs are recent graduates of Roseville Rising, which helps early-stage entrepreneurs innovate and grow their businesses locally. Roseville Rising is a program of the Roseville Venture Lab entrepreneur center, a public-private partnership between the City of Roseville and the nonprofit Growth Factory.

Gain valuable insights and expert advice from seasoned entrepreneurs, who will share their knowledge and experience to help propel your venture forward.

Attend office hours with entrepreneurs-in-residence and receive personalized feedback on your startup ideas or business challenges.

Sessions are free of charge and held regularly at the Roseville Venture Lab entrepreneur center.

Night work continues for Pleasant Grove Boulevard Widening Project

To continue construction on the Pleasant Grove Widening Project, crews will be performing night work through approximately October 31 from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Expect intermittent lane closures and construction noise along Pleasant Grove Boulevard. Keep an eye on digital message boards for current construction information. Be on the lookout for flaggers, slow down and travel with care.

Ready to Vote, Placer?

The Placer County Elections Office wants to share a few reminders for the November 5, 2024 General Election.

Voters are no longer assigned to a specific polling place and can now visit any one of 29 regional vote centers in the county to vote in person. Seven of Placer’s 29 vote centers opened Oct. 26; the remaining 22 locations will open Nov. 2.

Vote-by-mail ballots can be returned in person, by mail or by using one of 31 official drop boxes. Mailed ballots must be postmarked by Nov. 5 and received no later than Nov. 12.

Roseville City Council Passes Resolution to Support Proposition 36

At its Aug. 21 meeting, the Roseville City Council unanimously passed a resolution to support Proposition 36, the Drug and Theft Crime Penalties and Treatment-Mandated Felonies Initiative to reform Prop. 47, which will go before voters on November 5.  

The City of Roseville has received questions from the public about Placer County Transportation Planning Agency's (PCTPA) South Placer Traffic Relief ballot measure. So we're sharing answers to some frequently asked questions.  

What is Measure B and why is it on the ballot?
Residents of Roseville, Rocklin, and Lincoln will have the opportunity to vote on Measure B in the November 2024 election. It’s a 30-year half-cent sales tax that would provide a local transportation funding source to support $1.58 billion in road and highway improvements to address congestion. This would create a local funding “match,” which is required in order to access funding from the state and federal governments for transportation projects.

Placer County currently does not have a local funding match, but 26 other counties do. The South Placer region is one of the most populous regions in the state without a local transportation sales tax funding source.

Community Needs Workshops and Discussions

The City of Roseville is holding two Community Needs Workshops and Discussions to better understand the housing and service needs of the community to inform the five-year plan for the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program.

The meetings will be held on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. respectively, in Civic Center Meeting Rooms 1 & 2, 311 Vernon Street, Roseville, CA. The meetings will also be available for virtual attendance.

These community discussions will solicit public comments on local priority needs that will help guide future use of these federal grant funds for services, housing, and community programs and improvements, and guide the preparation of the City of Roseville’s 2025 Annual Action Plan and 2025-2029 Consolidated Plan.

State of Roseville Water virtual update recap

Roseville Environmental Utilities hosted a virtual community meeting on October 23, 2024, to give an update on the city's current water supply and share planning efforts and upcoming projects aimed at providing consistent, reliable water resources. 

Temporary parking garages closures in Downtown Roseville

The Vernon and Oak Street Parking Garages are undergoing speed bump installations. All parking garage levels will be closed, except for the first floor to access ADA spaces. Please plan ahead for the following closures:

• 405 Vernon Street will be closed through November 1
• 200 Oak Street will be closed from November 4 - 8

While work is being done, please use the other open parking garage or the alternate parking options available. Schedules are subject to change.

Flashing yellow arrow signals help keep traffic moving

No more waiting at the red light to turn left when it's clear to go. To assist drivers, traffic signals with flashing yellow left turn arrows will be installed at the following intersections:

• Stone Point Drive and N. Sunrise Avenue
• Stone Point Drive and Rocky Ridge Drive

You can expect to see these signals active by the end of October. Currently, Roseville has more than a dozen throughout the city.

The Roseville Police Department has partnered with the City of Roseville's Information Technology Department to bring you month-long tips and tricks on how to stay safe in our rapidly evolving digital world, with this week’s focus being fake URLs. Here are some simple ways to protect yourself:

Watch Out for Fake Sites:

• Check for misspellings or extra characters in URLs.
• Look for "HTTPS" at the start of the link (‘S’ is for Secure).
• Search online to check a site's reputation.

Be Cautious with Links:

• Hover over links to see where they lead.
• Avoid links with typos or from unknown emails.

Beware of Shortened Links:

• Shortened links can hide malicious sites.
• Only trust them from reliable sources or go directly to the website.

By following these tips, you can keep yourself safe online and avoid common techniques used by hackers. Stay vigilant and cyber aware!

Register for Roseville Police Citizens Academy

The Fall Citizens Academy will be held from October 14-17 AND 21-24. All sessions are held from 6-9 p.m. at the Roseville Police Department (1051 Junction Blvd). Registration closes October 4.

Citizens Academy helps course attendees further their knowledge of Roseville Police Department, its various units, and how skilled individuals and experts at the Department work as a team to serve the city. To register for this bi-annual opportunity, sign up through the application on our website.

Family, friends and fun for our Campfires on October 11 from 7:30-8:30 p.m. at the Maidu Museum & Historic Site! Toast marshmallows, enjoy tasty treats and listen to Native American stories with the whole family while sitting under the stars. Want to do more? Check out the Rock Art Mysteries Tour right after the campfire ends.

Let’s dance at a sensory friendly class

Enjoy a fun, inclusive dance experience where everyone feels accepted and comfortable! Our class is designed for neurodiverse and neurotypical kids, incorporating simple ASL, fidgets, noise-canceling headphones and more. Parent participation required.

Play, learn and grow with Tiny Tot Sports

Your tiny tot will discover a love of sports with Tiny Tot Sports! From basketball to soccer and dance, kids will have a blast while developing motor skills, building social connections and enjoying lots of fun. Parent participation is required, so come dressed to play! Various dates and times available.

Grab your crayons, colored pencils, paints, or digital tools and let your creativity save the day, showing your vision of "Utility Superheroes." This year’s theme invites you to depict our utility workers—whether in garbage, water, wastewater, or electric services—as the superheroes they are, keeping Roseville clean, safe, and thriving.
