Roseville Electric enhances assistance program discounts

Roseville Electric is committed to helping our customers in any and every way. From helping you become more energy efficient to sharing ways to save on your energy bill, as your community-owned utility, you are at the heart of everything we do.

We understand that between paying for groceries, childcare, and gasoline, utility bills can be burdensome on a household’s budget. That is part of the reason we recently increased the discounts of our rate assistance programs.

As of June 1, 2024, in addition to the discount each program applies to the standard residential electric rate, eligible applicants will receive a discounted base rate of $15 for as long as they qualify for the Electric Rate Assistance Program (ERAP) or the Medical Electric Rate Assistance Program. Contact our Customer Care for help finding the best solution for your household.

Updated hours for the Utility Exploration Center

To better accommodate a surge in visitors, the UEC is adjusting its public hours starting in September:

• September through May:
  • Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday: 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
  • Thursday, Friday: 12 p.m. – 4 p.m.

• June through August:
  • Tuesday through Saturday: 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

This year’s theme invites you to depict our utility workers—whether in garbage, water, wastewater, or electric services—as the superheroes they are, keeping Roseville clean, safe, and thriving.

Mayor Bruce Houdesheldt will give the 2024 State of the City address at 9 a.m., Friday, August 16 at Goldfield Trading Post in Downtown Roseville.

As your community-owned water provider, we take great pride in consistently delivering water that not only meets but exceeds state and federal quality standards. This is possible through our rigorous treatment processes and diligent monitoring efforts. California adopts new water conservation regulation

California recently adopted a new rule to conserve water for the long term. Under the new regulation, Roseville must cut water use by about 10 percent by 2030. The regulation establishes a water use budget for Roseville's entire service area, including:

• How much water a person uses indoors each day.
• How much water residents and commercial, industrial and institutional customers use outside.
• How much water is lost through leaks.

The City will continue supporting customers with water-wise rebates, infrastructure improvements, outdoor watering guidelines, turf replacement programs, and more.

Utility maintenance workers innovate using 3D printing

3D printing can build whole houses quickly and affordably. Our maintenance division had a similar idea to improve efficiency and cut costs at our water and wastewater facilities. At the Pleasant Grove Wastewater Treatment Plant, maintenance staff use 3D printing for these purposes.

The results are impressive. By making custom parts themselves, the plants have reduced wait times for replacement parts, reducing downtime. This quick turnaround improves the wastewater treatment processes, saves money, and helps them respond faster to maintenance and emergencies.

Pleasant Grove Boulevard to partially close overnight for road work

Overnight road work is temporarily closing eastbound Pleasant Grove Boulevard between Country Club Drive and Misty Wood Drive. The work will occur on Tuesday, Aug. 13 and Wednesday, Aug. 14. The closure will be from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Look for digital message signs to display up-to-date schedule information. Travel with care in the work zone and follow detour signs.

Dry Creek Greenway East Phase 1 update

To continue construction on the Dry Creek Greenway East trail project, Darling Way between Clinton Avenue and Hernandez Lane will have narrowed lanes. This traffic pattern will be in place until approximately October.

The third phase of road resurfacing in Sun City, including Del Webb and Sun City Boulevard, has started and will continue through 2024. Resurfacing protects streets and reduces the need for costly repairs in the future.

Extended Downtown Library hours to stay cool

With continued hot temperatures, the Downtown Library will, once again, extend its hours to provide a cool escape from the heat:

• July 22-25 from 9 a.m. - 8 p.m.

Enjoy a cool place to relax and grab a bottled water during the hottest parts of the day. Services may be limited during extended hours.

More helpful tips to stay cool:

• Drink plenty of water (2-4 glasses of water every hour if you are physically active and out in direct heat).
• Wear lightweight, light colored loose fitting clothing as well as a hat and sunglasses when outdoors.
• Always apply sunscreen and limit exposure during mid-day.
• When participating in outdoor activities, do so with a buddy and pace yourself in the heat.
• Always monitor those at risk for heat related illnesses, especially those on medications for heart disease, high blood pressure, etc. as they may be affected more by the heat.
• Never leave children, infants or pets inside vehicles.
• Provide pets with plenty of water and shade.

$10 buys unlimited rides with the Summer Youth Bus Pass 

For just $10, students in elementary through high school can ride unlimited through August 31 with the Summer Youth Bus Pass.

Use the pass to get to summer jobs, shopping, movies, parks and other activities on Roseville Transit, Placer County Transit, and Auburn Transit local bus routes.

Serve your community on the Senior Commission

Roseville City Council is accepting applications from citizens 18 or older residing within the City limits of Roseville interested in serving on the Senior Commission.

Members receive no compensation for their time, although they may attend training workshops or seminars at City expense. The deadline to apply for the Senior Commission is 4 p.m. Friday, July 26.

Summer energy saving tips

With temperatures expected to be over 100 degrees, energy conservation during peak hours (4-9 p.m.) is crucial.

Raising your AC temperature is one of the most effective ways to save energy. Try setting your thermostat to 78 degrees or higher, if health permits.

Limiting the use of ovens, stoves, dishwashers and laundry machines; closing your blinds to block the sun's heat; and using ceiling fans that spin counterclockwise are all good ways to help save energy and preserve your home's internal temperature.

Celebrate Smart Irrigation Month

This July, remember to make every drop of water count by using it wisely. This is especially important during a drought, but it's also crucial to maintain these habits even when water is plentiful. Using water efficiently is always a good practice, particularly for landscapes, as most water use occurs outdoors to keep them thriving. 

Lower permit fees for home-based businesses 

To encourage small businesses, home-based business permit fees have been lowered from $175 to $50.

A Home Occupation Permit is required for businesses operating from a personal residence where the residents are the employees.

Capital improvement highlights in the City of Roseville Fiscal Year 2024-25 budget 

Road resurfacing, the Roseville Soccer Complex and utility system improvements are among scores of infrastructure and improvement projects included in the Fiscal Year 2024-25 budget approved by the Roseville City Council at the June 19 meeting.

The combined capital improvement program budget totals approximately $90 million, consisting of 91 new projects.

Pleasant Grove Boulevard to partially close overnight for road work

Overnight road work is temporarily closing eastbound Pleasant Grove Boulevard between Country Club Drive and Misty Wood Drive. The work will occur on weekdays, starting this week and is expected to last approximately two weeks. The closure will be from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Look for digital message signs to display up-to-date schedule information. Travel with care in the work zone and follow detour signs.

Roseville City Council is accepting applications from citizens 18 or older residing within the City limits of Roseville interested in serving on the following Boards or Commissions:

Members receive no compensation for their time, although they may attend training workshops or seminars at City expense.

Beat the summer heat

Looking for a place to stay cool in the extreme heat? The Downtown Library (225 Taylor Street) is open extended hours now through July 10. Bottled water is available for those in need. 

More helpful tips to stay cool:

• Drink plenty of water (2-4 glasses of water every hour if you are physically active and out in direct heat).
• Wear lightweight, light colored loose fitting clothing as well as a hat and sunglasses when outdoors.
• Always apply sunscreen and limit exposure during mid-day.
• When participating in outdoor activities, do so with a buddy and pace yourself in the heat.
• Always monitor those at risk for heat related illnesses especially those on medications for heart disease, high blood pressure, etc. as they may be affected more by the heat.
• Never leave children, infants or pets inside vehicles.
• Provide pets with plenty of water and shade.

Illegal fireworks carry many risks, including injury, property damage, safety of first responders, costs of responding to emergencies, environmental harm and legal consequences.

In May 2024, the Roseville City Council amended the municipal code, making penalties for those who use illegal fireworks much more severe starting this year.

Penalties for illegal fireworks include stiffer fines, more severe legal consequences, liability for the cost of emergency response and additional responsibility of property owners who knowingly allow the use or storage of illegal fireworks on their property.

It’s time for 4^th of July festivities

Join us this 4th of July for a day full of fun and festivities! Start with the "Run Crime Out of Roseville" 5K, supporting community education and future first responders. Then, catch the parade at 9 a.m. through downtown.

After, head to Royer Park for live music and kids' activities. End the day with an amazing fireworks display @The Grounds. Gates open at 4 p.m., fireworks at 9:15 p.m.

Holiday hours

Most Roseville City offices are closed on July 4 in observance of Independence Day. 

Refuse service follows its regular daily pick-up schedule. The City remains staffed to provide  safety and emergency services. Administrative offices and public counters are closed.

Summer energy saving tips

With temperatures expected to be over 100 degrees, energy conservation during peak hours (4-9 p.m.) is crucial.

Raising your AC temperature is one of the most effective ways to save energy. Try setting your thermostat to 78 degrees or higher, if health permits.

Limiting the use of ovens, stoves, dishwashers, and laundry machines; closing your blinds to block the sun's heat; and using ceiling fans that spin counterclockwise are all good ways to help save energy and preserve your home's internal temperature.

Draft FY2024-25 Budget to be considered for adoption by City Council

The City's draft Fiscal Year 2024-2025 budget of $768 million is being considered for adoption by City Council on Wednesday, June 19. The General Fund operating budget is $229 million while the remaining $539 million in funding is primarily dedicated to utilities such as electric, water, wastewater and waste services.

The General Fund budget includes funding for Police, Fire, Parks, Recreation & Libraries, Public Works, Information Technology and other general government functions.

As temperatures rise, you may have seen an increase in cockroaches. They become more active in warm weather and are often found in garages or inside homes, typically seeking water.

Invasive Aedes mosquitoes detected in north Roseville 

The Placer Mosquito and Vector Control District detected invasive Aedes aegypti mosquitoes in the Foothills/Junction neighborhood of Roseville. Aedes aegypti, commonly known as the yellow fever mosquitoes, can transmit several viruses, however, none have not been found circulating in California.

You can help by allowing District technicians to access and inspect nearby properties in the Foothills/Junction neighborhood and by removing all standing water completely.

Chilton Middle School students shine in "Take Action" initiative

Chilton Middle School recently celebrated its second annual "Take Action" initiative during an awards ceremony hosted by the Utility Exploration Center (UEC). With 1,174 participants, the program raises environmental awareness and innovation as students use their creativity to address environmental challenges, including crafting social media campaigns, posters and developing ideas for energy-saving devices or behaviors. 

The ceremony recognized ten finalists from each grade with the top three winners from each grade receiving medals.

Industrial Avenue closure for Roseville Parkway Extension Project construction

To accommodate construction of the Roseville Parkway Extension Project, a portion of Industrial Avenue will be temporarily closed between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. during the week of June 3.

Draft FY2024-25 Budget released for public review

The City's draft Fiscal Year 2024-2025 budget of $768 million is available for public review. The General Fund operating budget is $229 million while the remaining $539 million in funding is primarily dedicated to utilities such as electric, water, wastewater and waste services.

The General Fund budget includes funding for Police, Fire, Parks, Recreation & Libraries, Public Works, Information Technology and other general government functions.

Commercial turf replacement project to save hundreds of thousands of gallons of water annually

If you're driving on Douglas Blvd, you might not realize that the retail center at the 1850 block will save an estimated 500 thousand gallons of water annually, thanks in part to Roseville's Cash-for-Grass program. With the landscape change, the amount of water saved could provide water to an average Roseville home for more than four years.

Roseville Parkway Extension Project update: Industrial Avenue closure

To continue construction of the Roseville Parkway Extension Project, portions of Industrial Avenue will be temporarily closed between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. during the week of June 3. 

Please choose an alternate route or follow detour signs during these times. Stay alert, allow extra time, and travel with care.
