August 3, 2021 Roseville calls for mandatory 20 percent water conservation in anticipation of worsening drought Beginning August 9, water users throughout Roseville are required to reduce water use by 20 percent. Although the City has adequate supply to meet demands, continued drought conditions throughout the fall and winter will further stress water supply at Folsom Lake and throughout California. As part of the mandate, Roseville is implementing landscape watering restrictions, including designated watering days. Learn more about the restrictions and ways to reduce your water use. Save water with the help of house calls and rebates Did you know that your bathroom is the largest consumer of indoor water? Save water one flush at a time with a rebate for replacing your old toilet with a newer, more efficient model. Save water outdoors by swapping out lawn-heavy landscaping for more water-wise alternatives with the Cash for Grass rebate. Plus, be sure to take advantage of Water Wise House Calls for a free assessment of your current water use and recommendations for ways to save. Learn more Public workshops scheduled for proposed electric rate adjustments The cost of delivering utility services continues to rise, from meeting changing regulatory requirements to maintaining our workforce. Do not use major appliances (e.g. oven, dishwasher, clothes dryer). Turn off unnecessary lights in your home. Unplug unused electrical devices and power strips. Close blinds and drapes to keep the heat from the sun out. Use fans when possible. Roseville Electric Utility has a number of resources available to ensure you are receiving the most up-to-date information and conservation tips. Find out more by visiting roseville.ca.us/planahead. By Rob Baquera, Public Information Officer, Roseville Police Department It will soon be back-to-school time. Many kids, teachers, and parents are eager to return to a regular routine of a daily school schedule. With kids going back to school comes the hustle and bustle of more pedestrians crossing the street, riding their scooters, and traversing the roadways while listening to their favorite tunes. As drivers, it’s our responsibility to always be on the lookout for potential road hazards, which includes kids attempting to cross the street by suddenly stepping off the sidewalk or popping out between parked cars. Here are some safety driving tips to consider while driving in school zones: Be on the lookout for signs, signals, crossing guards, and school buses with their lights on. When approaching a school bus, obey the lights and never pass a school bus whose lights are red, or the stop sign is extended. When entering a school zone, always obey the traffic laws, and slow down. Watch for crossing guards and obey their signals. Be aware of children near schools, playgrounds, bus stops, sidewalks, cross walks, in the streets, at the corners, or in parking lots. Avoid passing other vehicles while driving in a school zone. Never make a U-turn in a school zone. Never text while driving, especially in a school zone. Avoid using your phone unless it is completely hands-free. Avoid any distractions such as loud music, eating, applying makeup, etc., especially in a school zone and when children are present. Unless licensed to do so, never use handicap or emergency vehicle lanes or spaces to drop off or load/unload children at school. Watch for children and adults riding bicycles. Watch for children/teens walking who appear distracted (looking down) as they may be looking at their phone and may not hear or notice your vehicle. Returning to in-person school means more kids on the street and adults on the road. Accidents are bound to happen. Let’s do our part to avoid these incidents where we can and keep our eyes on the road and our kids as safe as possible.
